What is the cost for supporting a Nanhi Kali?
Rs. 3000 per year for a Nanhi Kali studying in primary school, Std 1 to Std 5 Rs. 4200 per year for a Nanhi Kali studying in secondary school, Std 6 to Std 10
How is the donation amount used for the education and welfare of the girl children?
The money that you donate is utilized in the following ways: (a) Academic support classes before or after school, towards improving learning levels so the girl children gain grade specific competency levels. (b) Material support like uniform, shoes, bags, books, stationery, hygiene material, under clothing, etc, so they attend school with dignity (The material kit content can differ as per requirements, region to region.) (c) Social support wherein regular interactions with their parents and community ensures that they don’t drop out.
How can you pay by cheque?
In India Cheque or Demand Draft can be drawn in favour of "K.C. Mahindra Education Trust A/C Nanhi Kali ". These can be sent to the KCMET office address: K. C. Mahindra Education Trust, Cecil Court, 3rd Floor, Near Regal Cinema, Mahakavi Bhushan Marg, Mumbai - 400 001. In the USA Cheque or Demand Draft can be drawn in favour of "The Mahindra Foundation USA". These can be sent to the address: c/o Mr. Kulashekhar Raghavan, 10 S Almaden Blvd, Suite 600, San Jose, CA 95113, USA Online donations can be made at www.nanhikali.org, through the Online Payment Gateway.
How long is the period of sponsorship?
The period of sponsorship is for a year. You can decide to support the education of as many Nanhi Kalis as you wish for upto 3 years instead of just one Nanhi Kali and one year. For example, you can support 1 Nanhi Kali for 3 years at a time or support 5 Nanhi Kalis for one year and renew the support each year or decide on any other combination of number of Nanhi Kalis and years. The choice is yours.
What will you receive after donating to Project Nanhi Kali?
We follow a green policy so we send emails giving login details to access the account and updates. Once you donate, you will receive the following emails during your annual sponsorship period : - A Welcome letter and the receipt, in 7 working days from the donation date. - An allotment letter with Login details so you can access your account, see the profile of your Nanhi Kali, which gives details of her family and her living environment, approximately within 45 days of the receipt of donation - A letter intimating that the progress report of your Nanhi Kali has been uploaded so you can be updated about how your Nanhi Kali is doing in school. This report is uploaded every six months.
Can you visit your Nanhi Kali?
In case all Nanhi Kalis from an entire school have been supported by you, a school visit can be organized by and in the presence of the KCMET and / or the implementing NGO team. To protect the interest of both the donor as well as the Nanhi Kali, one to one interactions are not allowed.
How do you keep in touch with your Nanhi Kali?
You can keep in touch with your Nanhi Kali by sending her letters and birthday cards. Post these to the following address and rest assured she will receive them. The Nanhi Kali Project, K. C. Mahindra Education Trust, Cecil Court , 3rd Floor, Near Regal Cinema, Mahakavi Bhushan Marg, Mumbai - 400 001. Please note that we do not encourage gifts being sent to Nanhi Kalis.
Are you the only sponsor for your Nanhi Kali?
Yes, during your sponsorship period you will be the only person sponsoring your Nanhi Kali. After the end of the period, you may choose to renew the sponsorship, by sending us the renewal amount. However, if the sponsorship amount does not reach us within 2 months of the due date, in order to ensure her uninterrupted education, another mentor will be found for your Nanhi Kali. 2 months after the due date, if you wish to continue supporting the program, you will be assigned a new Nanhi Kali.
Are there any tax benefits for donating to Project Nanhi Kali?
In India Yes, all contributions are deductible under Section 80 G of the Income Tax Act. In USA Yes, Mahindra Foundation USA is a Section 501 ( c ) (3) organization with Tax ID # 20-8105205, under the US Internal Revenue Code and all donations are therefore tax deductible
Will you send me tax exemption certificate?
In India Yes, once you make your donation we will send you a receipt which also serves as your 80G certificate. In USA The receipt includes the Mahindra Foundation USA tax id which you can use to claim tax exemption.
Can I choose to support Project Nanhi Kali in a specific area/region?
We do not give the choice of area/region/caste/creed etc for selection of Nanhi Kalis, since our aim is to reach out to every underprivileged girl child in India irrespective of these criteria. We have a list of children who are waiting to be supported under Project Nanhi Kali, so we urge our donors to donate for the education of girl children irrespective of these conditions.
In which regions of India is Project Nanhi Kali reaching out to girl children?
Project Nanhi kali is currently reaching out to girl children in Maharashtra (Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nashik, Igatpuri, Solapur) Andhra Pradesh (East Godavari, Visakhapatnam), New Delhi, Punjab (Moga), Haryana (Gurgaon, Gusbethi), Madhya Pradesh (Gwalior, Ratlam), Uttar Pradesh ( Barabanki, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Varanasi), Gujarat (Bharuch), West Bengal (Darjeeling, Kolkatta), Chattisgarh (Kanker), Karnataka (Bangalore- Urban, Kolar), Tamil Nadu (Krishnagiri). And the Nanhi Kali Adolescent Centres are in Maharashtra (Mumbai, Chakkan), Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad, Vizag, Araku), Madhya Pradesh (Sheopur), Haryana (Gurgaon), Tamil Nadu (Krishnagiri)
In case my Nanhi Kalis academic performance has not been good, can I find out the reason behind it?
Yes you can, just mail us your query and we will get back to you. Further the six monthly progress reports of your Nanhi Kali will highlight the factors possibly affecting the performance of your Nanhi Kali as identified by the teacher and the implementing NGO in charge of your Nanhi Kali.
On what basis are the Nanhi Kalis selected?
The girls are selected as per the following criteria: - Girl children who are enrolled in government schools. - Girl children belonging to the poorest sections of the society who mostly belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. - Girl children having illiterate parents. - Girl children belonging to SC/ST or migrating communities. - The eldest girl child in the family and girls with many siblings. - Girl children from communities known for gender biases like female infanticide, early marriage etc. - Girl children from households headed by women.
Is it safe to give my credit card details online?
The project Nanhi Kali website partners with CC Avenues in India and Cybersource in the USA because these online payment gateways adhere to high security measures. Both are committed to ensuring that details shared by user especially sensitive information like credit card details etc remain protected. How safe is my personal information with Nanhi Kali?
KCMET considers our donors as a part of the Project Nanhi Kali family and will take measures to ensure that their privacy is always protected. Your personal information will remain with the K C Mahindra Education Trust and will not be divulged to any other institution.
How can I update my personal details if they change?
In case of changes in personal details we encourage you to log in and make changes to your profile. You can also notify us by email to enable us to update our records.
Can I donate for the renewal of the Nanhi Kali sponsorship online?
Yes you can.

Can I send a gift for my Nanhi Kali ?
We do not encourage sending of gifts so that the other children who are not Nanhi Kalis, don’t feel left out. In case a cheque is sent as a gift, we use the money to distribute sweets to all the girls in the Nanhi Kali’s class.
What is the purpose of a login id & password?
All donors receive a system generated login id and password through a letter. The Login details enable the donor to view the profile and progress report of their Nanhi Kali, online on this website. The donor can also log in to renew the sponsorship of his Nanhi Kalis or sponsor new Nanhi Kalis.
